wanderlust
Something that I have noticed as a recurring theme in my work are these very strong characters who most of the time, if they were to be inserted into a much larger epic, would appear as very strong female leads, many of whom appear in what are generally considered male roles.
These two paintings are depicting different female pilots. This comes across to me as being very interesting in that I am super duper terrified of flying. Irony.
Our first Pilot, wanderlust, is on a specific mission. Her eyes fixed and determined. All of her lines and weaving emphasize upward motion.
Our second pilot, Ariel, is not on any particular mission. She is more just a pilot for fun, possibly to float along with the butterflies she seems to idolize so dearly. Notice how the butterfly has taken up prominence where the star of knowledge usually appears on other ladies…
